Dir: David M. Rosenthal, Sta: Sam Rockwell
So dense is the air of melancholic bleakness produced by A Single Shot that it sticks to your very bones. The script is barren (which fits nicely with the rural Canadian location) but lacks any real energy, and what begins with potential struggles to live up to it’s ‘thriller’ label. Örvarsson’s soundtrack, taking cues from Johnny Greenwood’s incredible There Will Be Blood score, adds a dose of suspense, but it’s Rockwell’s performance that makes this worth a watch, albeit in a role that was made for him.
